Your Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

New Home Spring Maintenance Checklist

Be sure to take these steps for a better spring season in your new home!

1. Replace Furnace Filters

What most homeowners do not know is that changing the furnace filter on a regular basis is just as important when using the air conditioner as it is when using the furnace to provide heat. Filters should be replaced on a regular basis throughout the year.

2. Test and Service your Air Conditioning Unit

Be sure that the power to the AC unit is powered on at both the interior and exterior of the home. It is important to make sure the air conditioner is in good working condition before temperatures get too high.

3. Adjust and Seal Exterior Windows and Doors

As temperatures and humidity levels change throughout the year, doors and windows will expand and contract. It is important to adjust doors and thresholds so you can open and close them with ease and keep dust and dirt out. Caulking at exterior doors and windows should also be maintained and repaired during the spring to remedy any damage or deterioration that took place during the winter months.

4. Test Hose Bibs and Sprinkler Systems

It is important to test hose bibs and sprinkler systems in the spring to ensure there are no leaks or breaks in the water lines as a result of freezing during the winter months. This should be completed once freezing temperatures have subsided for the year.

5. Check your sump pit and sump pump

As the snow begins to melt and there is more moisture present, it is important to check your sump pit for excess water and ensure that your sump pump has power and is working properly.

6. Check your perimeter drains

Ensure your perimeter drains are clear of mud and debris to avoid blockages and flooding.
